Coller Capital’s 2024 ESG Report

ESG in the investment process
Post-investment engagement

During the reporting period we undertake risk-driven post-investment engagement across most of our investment exposures drawing upon our evolving ‘stewardship’ playbook of engagement options.

Post investment engagement activities

In many ways our role has changed as more GPs no integrate ESG compared to the earlier years. It has, for example, become rarer over time to come across a portfolio GP without a formal ESG policy and many more are now actively involved in established investor led initiatives, such as the UN-PRI.

This is reflected in the findings arising from our most recent GP ESG survey, which confirms the strong evolution in the ‘governance’ of ESG among portfolio GPs. Our focus over recent years has been on proposing enhancements to existing approaches and establishing the validity of statements made by GPs about their approach and process steps.

We fully expect these trends to continue and while the debate about what to call ‘ESG’ might go on, the issues themselves will remain and continue to affect business.

91% of portfolio GPs responding to our survey hold formal ESG policies, reflecting a slight increase from 87% in 2016 and highlights a consistent highlevel of support for ESG among GPs over time.
Over 75% of portfolio GPs responding to our survey are now a signatory to the PRI.

Note: Coller Capital’s 2024 ESG survey collected the responses from 66 General Partners in the CIP VI, CIP VII, CIP VIII and CCO I portfolios, in the period between February to April 2024.
