In particular, the research highlights that men with large networks and a high number of directorships were the most likely to perform poorly. Could these findings be used to drive the diversity debate?
“These findings don’t surprise me at all. People who ‘over-board’ themselves are a liability. No-one should be taking on more than half a dozen board positions. You are only going to spend time on six, so the others aren’t getting value. I am also not surprised that the most poorly performing directors are men. Women have to be so demonstrably competent in order to get on a board in the first place that you are unlikely to find a duff one.”
